These are well-established dating methods, and can produce excellent results. That said, they do have certain caveats and chronological limitations, and to work reliably they demand the correct environmental conditions. This chapter will present dating methods which do not require the preservation of organic carbon, or the retention of a viable <sup>210</sup>Pb inventory in the sediments of interest.
