This chapter emphasizes the processes and issues pertaining to the U-series dating of fossil corals, which is the most widespread application of U-series dating in studies of past sea-level position. U-series dating of speleothems is also addressed, to allow for expanded discussion of the issues involved in obtaining and interpreting U-series dates of fossil coral reefs.
