We focus on sailing as a context for promoting self-development and as a context for therapeutic or rehabilitative interventions. We review research on educational sail training and sailing for marginalized groups, people with disabilities or with mental health problems. These sorts of interventions have become more common during the last decade, with increasing interest in outward bound education and in taking therapy outside.
