The Australian monogenoid fauna cannot be said to be particularly distinct from any other. The Solanderian representatives have most affinity with those found in the Indo-Australasian zoogeographical area and this is almost certainly a result of the sepcificity developed between the parasites and their hosts which are themselves related to fish of the Indo-Australasian area.
