Phylogenetic evidence is presented that supports the monophyly of each of these subfamilies. Furthermore, the Menidiinae is divisible into two large lineages which are here recognized as tribes. The Menidiini contains the genera Menidia, Chirostoma, Poblana, and Labidesthes. The Membradini includes Membras, Hubbesia, Adenops, Xenomelaniris, Melaniris, Thyrinops, Atherinella, Coleotropis, Eurystole, Nectarges, Archomenidia, Xenatherina, and Melanorhinus. Phylogenetic analysis of the Membradini revealed that Melaniris is a paraphyletic assemblage, whose members grade into many of the other genera listed for the tribe. Based upon the phylogenetic hypotheses, the membradin silversides were reclassified into three genera: Membras, Atherinella, and Melanorhinus. Atherinella is divided into four subgenera and several species groups. Diagnoses for all higher categories are provided.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AS","StandardTitle":"Phylogenetic relationships and reclassification of menidiine silverside fishes with emphasis on the tribe Membradini","OrigTitleLangCode":"en","OrigTitleLangCodeExtended":"eng","OrigTitleLangID":15,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2024-12-10 01:33:17.368041","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+01:00"},"UserAccessRight":null,"UserAccID":null,"AuthorKeywords":null,"OtherDescriptors":null,"Notes":null,"AnaPub":1986,"MonPub":null,"DateUpdate":"2018-09-11","DateCreate":"2018-09-11","SecASFANote":null,"ConfID":null,"PeerRev":1,"VlizCoreFlag":1,"WoScode":"WOS:A1986N018700007","VABBcode":null,"OpenAcc":0},"refs":null,"anarec":{"AnaID":301057,"PubliDate":1986,"Pagination":"189-249","XtraPublOfAnaID":null,"ISBN":null,"Volume":"138","Issue":"1","BRefMon":null,"BRefMonRR":null,"BRefXtra":null,"BRefXtraRR":null,"SerBRefID":43652,"SerRR":"Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
