For example, advances in the production of biogeneic nanomaterials from algal cell cultures, such as crystalline beta-chitin nanofibrils and gold and silver nanoparticles, could enable the 'green' production of biomaterials such as tissue-engineering scaffolds or drug carriers, supercapacitors and optoelectric materials.
