Title
Las diatomeas del Parque Ecológico de Xochimilco, México ¿Qué tan importante es la flora de un grupo de un pequeño lugar? = The diatoms from the Ecological Park of Xochimilco, Mexico. What is the importance of a one group flora from a small place?
Abstract
The water bodies of the Ecological Park of Xochimilco (PEX) have been changed notably, showing a marked annual tendency to the decrease in water surface area. This situation emphasizes the importance of diatoms of the Park, mainly the unique registries and indicates to the lacustrine area like one of the zones that could be severely disturbed because of several periods of drought. The objectives of the present work were to document the diversity and consider possible effects of the drought in the lake area. Twelve collections were made monthly during 2006 and 2007. The species were categorized as dominant, frequent, constant and rare, with the percentile calculation of each category. We documented 71 metaphytic diatoms taxa from the four sites studied in the PEX. This study stressed that, in the conditions of the Park, the species Navicula reinhardtii, Sellaphora americana, Nitzschia recta and Tryblionella compressa can be considered as threatened and highlights the urgency of documenting the flora of freshwater microalgae, both local and regional, and analyzes their importance.
