The benthonic foraminifera found in the type section of the San Julián Formation are studied, being recognized four assemblages which characterize several levels of the Julián Stage (Upper Eocene-Lower Oligocene). Shallow waters and warm temperate temperature at the time of the deposition of the Julián Stage are inferred.
