Deze aanvoer bepaalt mee de hoeveelheid sediment dat in het systeem beschikbaar is (~SSC} en is belangrijk voor de verschillende estuariene functies, zoals onderhoudsbaggerwerken ten behoeve van de toegankelijkheid van de havens, het doorzicht in het kader van ecologie, de ruwheid van de bodem in relatie tot getijvoortplanting en de veiligheid tegen overstromingen.<br>De inkomende sedimentvracht wordt zo nauwkeurig mogelijk bepaald. Hierdoor bekomt men een sedimentbalans m.b.t. fluviatiele sedimentinput vanuit de bovenstromen. Doel van deze studie is het optimaliseren van de methode voor het bepalen van deze sedimentbalans.<br>Er worden 3 verschillende berekeningsmethoden (op basis van debiet, op basis van pompstalen en op basis van turbiditeit) voorgesteld voor het bekomen van de sedimentbalans. Deze worden enerzijds onderling vergeleken, alsook vergeleken met de 'oude' berekeningsmethode op basis van schepstalen. Hiervoor worden in verschillende stations aan de randen van het getijgebied de berekende waarden vergeleken. Bedoeling is een 'optimale' berekeningsmethode te bepalen.<br>Er blijkt een verschil in aanpak nodig voor stations die onderhevig zijn aan getij en stations die zich buiten het getijgebied bevinden.
