Near the southern distribution limit of the clams in SW France (Gironde) their performance (growth, glycogen, free amino acids, genetic traits) indicates a bad performance. Beyond the southern distribution limit, low food concentrations near the coastline and pollutants in the estuaries, together with higher temperatures, cause a negative annual energy budget and the ultimate disappearance of the species from territories south of the Gironde. In the Arctic, a strong performance of clams was shown, coinciding with genetic adaptations connected to speciation at subspecies level.","AbstractOtherLang":"Les strategies adaptatives chez le bivalve marin Macoma balthica, la telline de la Baltique, sont mises en evidence par les variations de son statut physiologique et de son bilan energetique. Le statut physiologique de ces mollusques a proximite de la limite meridionale de leur repartition, dans la Gironde (sud-ouest de la France), est perturbe (croissance, glycogene, acides amines libres, caracteres genetiques). Au-dela de cette limite sud, les faibles concentrations en nourriture pres du rivage et la concentration en polluants des estuaires, associees a des temperatures plus elevees, sont la cause d'un bilan energetique annuel negatif et de la disparition ultime de l'espece au sud de la Gironde.
