The new species is characterized by having dorsal crests in several of their body segments as well as four pairs of smooth, apinnate branchiae on chaetigers 2-5. In the present paper, the new species is described, illustrated and compared to related species. In addition, and identification key is provided for all know valid <i>Prionospio</i> Malmgren, 1867 species possessing only apinnate branchiae beginning on chaetiger 2.
