The RaySociety, 1851), the diverse array of sexual systems in barnacles and rich transitions between them have attracted researchers. Here, I review recent theoretical and empirical studies on barnacle sexuality. First, the distribution of sexual systems among barnacles (in the broadest sense) is explained. Next, I introduce the concept of “the barnacle prototype” to explain the pattern of sexual systems and their transitions. Sex allocation theory and its extensions follow, and resource allocation model is explained to integrate sex allocation and life history models. The empirical evidence, both from phylogenetic comparisons and intraspecific studies, is reviewed. Lastly, I summarizeknowns and unknowns about barnacle sexuality. Most likely, barnacles will provide topics for further study on the diversity and unifying theory of sexual systems.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AM","StandardTitle":"Hermaphrodites, dwarf males, and females: Evolutionary transitions of sexual systems in barnacles","OrigTitleLangCode":"en","OrigTitleLangCodeExtended":"eng","OrigTitleLangID":15,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2024-12-10 01:33:17.368041","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+01:00"},"UserAccessRight":null,"UserAccID":null,"AuthorKeywords":null,"OtherDescriptors":null,"Notes":null,"AnaPub":2018,"MonPub":null,"DateUpdate":"2019-11-07","DateCreate":"2019-11-07","SecASFANote":null,"ConfID":null,"PeerRev":0,"VlizCoreFlag":1,"WoScode":null,"VABBcode":null,"OpenAcc":0,"DOI":"10.1007/978-3-319-94139-4_8"},"refs":null,"anarec":{"AnaID":317786,"PubliDate":2018,"Pagination":"221-245","XtraPublOfAnaID":null,"ISBN":"978-3-319-94139-4","Volume":null,"Issue":null,"BRefMon":317748,"BRefMonRR":"<b>Leonard, J.
