For this, a short-term test system has been developed with the estuarine mysid shrimp <i>Mysidopsis bahia</i> (M.) as experimental animal. Three different <i>Artemia</i> preparations were evaluated for their possible effects on reproductive activity and offspring quality: a commercial maturation diet (Marila) incorporated in Great Salt Lake <i>Artemia</i> metanauplii was compared to freshly-hatched nauplii and coconut-oil enriched metanauplii as food sources for the experimental broodstock animals. Within an experimental period of 14 days after reaching sexual maturity, 3.4 respectively 8.8 times more juveniles were produced in the Marila- <i>Artemia</i> treatment than in the coconut-oil <i>Artemia</i> and freshly-hatched <i>Artemia</i> treatments respectively. The offspring quality in terms of resistance to temperature shock and starvation was also best with the Marila treatment.
