Op basis van data (topo-bathymetrieën en getijgegevens) werd nagegaan wat de invloed is van deze morfologische wijzigingen op de evolutie van het getij. In de periode van 1900 tot recent vormen inpoldering (afname in intertidaal areaal) en verruiming (toename in geuldiepte) de belangrijkste menselijke ingrepen. Verruiming zorgt er voor dat er een daling is van de (extreme) laagwaterstanden indien de geuldieptetoename voldoende groot is. Dit is het geval voor de zone Hansweert-Dendermonde (vanaf 1960), waarbij zelfs een geuldieptetoename tot 30 % wordt waargenomen in het segment Hansweert-Liefkenshoek. Daarnaast zorgt geuldieptetoename voor een toename van de celeriteit laagwater, wat op zijn beurt resulteert in een daling van de getij-asymmetrie. De invloed van inpoldering is moeilijker na te gaan op basis van data-analyse. Dit omdat de periode van inpoldering (1900-1970) gekenmerkt wordt door simultane veranderingen in geuldiepte.
