Numerous species are commonly found In other places than Hawaii Islands where <i>S. newcombii</i> was described to be endemic. This work is also based on the fact that albino species of <i>S. newcombii</i> exist. This is not consistent with the original description which described it with a black to brown band covering the last whorl of the shell. This black band is part of the animal and does not disappear even after being washed with bleach. That is not the case concerning <i>S. casta</i> that becomes all white after washing. It is quite difficult to discriminate between an albino <i>S. newcombii</i> and a <i>S. casta</i> without its black markings.
