Under these conditions differences in tolerance between populations were found: a common range of high tolerance was found in all populations in salinities 1.5–10‰, while in higher (15–20‰) and lower (1.0–10‰) salinities, differences between populations seemed to be correlated to their origin. Populations from freshwater and low salinity showed a higher tolerance to the lowest salinities, while populations from higher salinities were more tolerant of the highest salinities tested. The freshwater animals showed, however, a somewhat higher tolerance in high salinities than might be expected from their origin.

The tolerance at 5 °C was generally higher than at 15 °C.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AS","StandardTitle":"Salinity tolerance of Theodoxus fluviatilis (Mollusca, Gastropoda) from freshwater and from different salinity regimes in the Baltic Sea","OrigTitleLangCode":"en","OrigTitleLangCodeExtended":"eng","OrigTitleLangID":15,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2026-06-13 01:31:43.886863","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+02:00"},"UserAccessRight":null,"UserAccID":null,"AuthorKeywords":"fresh waters, Baltic Sea","OtherDescriptors":null,"Notes":null,"AnaPub":1978,"MonPub":null,"DateUpdate":"2020-06-11","DateCreate":"2020-06-11","SecASFANote":null,"ConfID":null,"PeerRev":1,"VlizCoreFlag":1,"WoScode":"WOS:A1978EX18600006","VABBcode":null,"OpenAcc":0,"DOI":"10.1016/0302-3524(78)90131-7"},"refs":null,"anarec":{"AnaID":325027,"PubliDate":1978,"Pagination":"409-416","XtraPublOfAnaID":null,"ISBN":null,"Volume":"6","Issue":"4","BRefMon":null,"BRefMonRR":null,"BRefXtra":null,"BRefXtraRR":null,"SerBRefID":75886,"SerRR":"Estuarine and Coastal Marine Science.
