Abstract

The Flanders Marine Institute accommodates the biggest collectionof literature on marine sciences in Belgium. The Institute has takenthe initiative to develop a fully integrated marine information databasefor - among other things - indexing this collection. The globalaim of IMIS (Integrated Marine Information System) is to provideinformation on all topics relevant to marine sciences: people withtheir expertise, institutions and their mandate, publications, projects,datasets or marine events. By way of one central interface, theuser can search, find and retrieve all possible data on the marineenvironment.

Het Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee (Vliz) in Oostende, herbergt degrootste collectie zeewetenschappelijke literatuur van België. Hetinstituut heeft het initiatief genomen tot de uitbouw van een vollediggeïntegreerde mariene informatiedatabank, om onder anderedeze collectie te ontsluiten. Het globale doel van Imis (IntegratedMarine Information System) is om informatie te leveren over alleonderwerpen relevant aan mariene wetenschappen: over personenen hun mariene expertise, over instituten en hun mandaat, overpublicaties, over projecten, over datasets of over mariene evenementen.Via één centrale interface kan de gebruiker alle mogelijkegegevens rond het marien milieu zoeken, vinden en opvragen.
