Since the mid‐1990s, the species has spread along the entire Estonian Baltic coastline. Growth rate in the brackish water population does not differ much from freshwater populations, but the freshwater populations are gynogenetic (or show high dominance of females) in contrast to the Baltic Sea population, which presents a normal sex ratio.
