In de eerste helft van maart 2020 werd een periode met grote neerslaghoeveelheden gevolgd door een springtijperiode van 10-13 maart 2020. In deze periode werd de prewaakdrempel te Antwerpen 7 keer overschreden, met één overschrijding van de drempel voor Stormtij Zeescheldebekken op 12 maart 2020.<br>Het 1D-hydrodynamisch model van het Zeescheldebekken werd recent geactualiseerd (International Marine and Dredging Consultants & Waterbouwkundig Laboratorium, 2020). De hindcast heeft tot doel de performantie van het geactualiseerde 1D-model tijdens de periode met springtij en verhoogde bovenafvoer van februari – maart 2020 na te gaan.<br>De stormen van februari 2020 en maart 2020 werden nagerekend met het geactualiseerde model van het Zeescheldebekken. Hierbij zijn enkel historische meetreeksen als randvoorwaarde gebruikt. In een tweede simulatie werd de topofactor voor de wind aangepast. Waterpeilen zijn geëvalueerd ter hoogte van de meetposten langs de Zeeschelde en getijgebonden zijrivieren, met behulp van VIMM. Ook in de GOG’s zijn waterpeilen geëvalueerd op basis van meetgegevens van waterpeilmeters. De resultaten van de berekeningen met verschillende windfactoren zijn ook onderling vergeleken. De aanpassing van de topofactor voor de wind van 1.0 naar 0.6 zorgt voor een daling van de maximum waterpeilen langsheen de Zeeschelde en zijrivieren, tijdens de stormen. Een verdere validatie van het Zeescheldemodel voor de topofactor voor de wind wordt aanbevolen.<p> In een bijkomende scenarioberekening werd tevens nog het effect van het sluiten van de GGGinwateringssluizen tijdens de storm bekeken.
