The group exhibited its peak diversity during the Middle Miocene, where highly specialised morphological characters developed inseveral taxa This study provides a taxonomic descnption of two new Middle to Late Miocene <i>Umbilia</i> species from two localities within the Otway Basin of Victoria, Australia The first species, formally descnbed as <i>U. hallani</i> n. sp., is known from Lake Bullen Merri,which is of presumed Bairnsdalian age. The second species, <i>U. darryli</i> n. sp., is known from Late Miocene deposits in Lake Keilambete, Victoria. The two new species are compared to species to which they have been previously attributed and to other congeners.
