In the western Atlantic, there are seven genera and 23 species, and the genus <i>Sanopus</i> Smith 1952 has six species with limited geographic distribution range in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) and Caribbean Sea (CS). This work compiled and reviewed information from scientific literature and database revisions on distribution range of <i>Sanopus</i> species, with emphasis in the southern GOM and Mexican CS. <i>Sanopus astrifer</i>, <i>S. reticulatus</i>, and <i>S. splendidus</i> showed updated records from their type locality, while <i>S. barbatus</i>, <i>S. greenfieldorum</i>, and <i>S. johnsoni</i> had no change in distribution.
