Fischer, 1912 are discussed. The status of the genus and the conchological similarities with species assigned to <i>Helicofusus</i> Dall, 1916 and the differences with <i>Plicifusus</i> Dall, 1902 are discussed. <i>Anomalisipho virgata</i> (Friele, 1879) is confirmed as distinct from <i>A. verkruezeni</i> (Kobelt, 1876), based on shape, sculpture, colour, periostracum, morphological characteristics of the operculum and the way erosion has impact on the outer layer of the shell. <i>Buccinum brucei</i> Melvill & Standen, 1900 is confirmed as a synonym of <i>A. virgata</i> instead of <i>Retifusus latericeus</i> (Möller, 1842). <i>Fusus altus</i> Wood, 1842 (= <i>Trophon altum</i> Wood, 1848) is confirmed as exclusively fossil. The species is excluded from the genus based on conchological characteristics that differ from <i>A. verkruezeni</i>, but no alternative is proposed, its placement being still uncertain. In addition, <i>Anomalisipho martensi</i> (Krause, 1885), a species that occurs in the adjacent Arctic Ocean, is discussed.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AS","StandardTitle":"How well are the northern whelks known?
