Modifications are indicated in the classification of <i>Hexaplex</i> and <i>Phyllonotus</i>. Five species are reassigned to <i>Muricanthus</i>: <i>M. ambiguus</i> (Reeve, 1845), <i>M. callidinus</i> Berry, 1958, <i>M. nigritus</i> (Philippi, 1845), <i>M. radix</i> (Gmelin, 1791) and the elusive <i>M. strausi</i> (A.H.Verrill, 1950). All these species are described, commented on and illustrated.
