(2021) investigated the phylogeny of the oysters (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Ostreidae) using a combination of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences. The relationships among many groups were clearly resolved in their analyses, in agreement with previous studies (Salvi & Mariottini, 2017; Guo et al., 2018), with their Fig. 2 showing high maximum-likelihood bootstraps and Bayesian-inference posterior probabilities. Unfortunately, the systematic conclusions they drew – namely, the use of the genus Crassostrea for all members of the Crassostreinae, and the continued use of the Lophinae, which renders the Ostreinae paraphyletic – are inconsistent with their phylogeny and they continue to fail to follow the rules of zoological nomenclature – citing the wrong authority for the Saccostreinae – perpetuating the erroneous conclusions of Guo et al., 2018, Cui et al., 2021.
