- Descrição morfológica do primeiro estágio larval (zoea I) do camarão Typton distinctus Chace, 1972 (Caridea: Palaemonidae)
- Abstract
- Typton, is a genus of marine shrimp with a wide distribution, known to live in associations with other organisms, such as sponges and corals. Typton, currently includes 22 described species, of which 7 are reported from the coast of Brazil. Among all species belonging to the genus, only two have data on larval morphology. Considering the lack of information about the individuals of the genus, especially their larval forms, the present study described the first larval stage of the shrimp Typton distinctus. The collection of the ovigerous female took place in January 2019, at Cais do Porto, located in the Bay of Itaguá, Ubatuba, São Paulo, with subsequent spawning in the laboratory. The morphology of the first larval stage of T. distinctus was compared to its congener Typton spongicola, seeking to find morphological patterns that help in the diagnosis and separation of larvae. Both showed to share a series of characteristics, which can commonly be observed for most Caridea in the larval stage of zoea I, such as sessile eyes; antenna with segmented exopod; first 3 swimming maxillipeds; pereopods absent; pleopods and uropods absent; telson not separated from the sixth abdominal somite, with 14 setae following the 7+7 pattern. Although the two zoea I have been shown to be morphologically similar, T. distinctusshowed a number of 17 distinct morphological characters, which may help to separate them from T. spongicola, present on the rostrum; peduncle and exopod of antenulle; peduncle and exopod of antenna; basal endite and endopod of maxillule; endopod and basal endite of maxilla; basis, endopod and exopod of the first maxilliped; basis, endopod and exopod of the second maxilliped; exopod of the third maxilliped; second pair of biramous pereopods. The high number of distinct characteristics for T. distinctus may result from the absence of details in certain structures described for T. spongicola, increasing the morphological distinctions between the two zoeas. The present study contributes to elucidate information about the genus, helping in the identification and separation of T. distinctus shrimp, as well as its congener T. spongicola, in addition, the data described may help in future studies with Typton larvae.
