Most of the mercury found in marine food webs originated as anthropogenic emissions, and the path from emission sources to fish depends on many processes which will be affected by a changing climate. This chapter discusses how the changing ocean environment, through factors such as plankton community structure, food chain length, ocean temperature, and anthropogenic mercury emissions will change seafood methylmercury concentrations. Some factors, such as seawater temperature, have competing effects, while others, such as food web structure, will vary from region to region.
