As the oceans warm, become more acidic, and lose oxygen, there is no alternative but to account for the impact of environmental variability on fisheries dynamics. In this chapter we discuss patterns of population variability in marine fisheries and provide an updated scheme to classify the dynamics of fish stocks based on a set of biologically motivated time series probes.
