In kader van de renovatie van deze sluis vraag afdeling Expertise Beton en Staal aan het Waterbouwkundig Laboratorium of de openingswet van de schuiven geoptimaliseerd kan worden.<br>WL heeft hiervoor een in situ meting uitgevoerd vòòr renovatie van de sluis. Tijdens deze in situ meting werden de nivelleerkromme, de langse waterspiegelhellingen tijdens nivelleren en de openingswet opgemeten voor een 4 vullingen en 4 ledigingen. Uit de meetresultaten volgt dat de hefhoogte van de hefschuiven beperkt is tot de halve rioolhoogte, zowel voor de schuiven in het bovenhoofd als voor de schuiven in het benedenhoofd. Voor de langse waterspiegelhelling lijkt het schip in de kolk een belangrijke invloed te hebben op de mate van demping van de waterspiegelhellingen.<br> Voor het optimaliseren van de openingswet werd een hydraulisch netwerkmodel opgesteld. De ladingsverliezen van dit netwerkmodel worden gekalibreerd op basis van de meetresultaten. Hierna wordt een validatie uitgevoerd van de langse waterspiegelhelling. Uit deze validatie volgt dat de piekwaarden van de langse waterspiegelhelling bij vullen onderschat worden maar dat de overeenkomst bij ledigen goed is. Ook wordt opgemerkt dat, op één nivellering na, het model de demping van de langse waterspiegelhellingen onderschat.<br>Vanuit het beperken van de krachten op de schepen in de kolk wordt bij voorkeur een openingswet toegepast waarbij de schuiven bij het begin van de nivellering traag geopend worden. Bij beperkte hefhoogtes is er echter een risico op zelfexcitatie van de schuiven. Op basis van de geometrie van de onderrand van de hefschuiven wordt door middel van literatuurformules het bereik waarbinnen er een risico op zelfexcitatie bestaat geraamd op de eerste 0.08 m a 0.12 m.<br>Door middel van simulaties met het hydraulisch netwerkmodel worden geoptimaliseerde openingswetten opgesteld. Om het risico op zelfexcitatie te beperken bestaan deze geoptimaliseerde openingswetten uit een eerste snelle openingsstap met hierop volgend een tweede fase met een trage constante hefsnelheid. Om de krachten op het schip in de kolk te beperken wordt bij vullen een wachttijd ingelast tussen de eerste en tweede fase. Uit de simulaties volgt dat bij een eerste snelle openingsstap van 0.12 m bij vullen en 0.25 m bij ledigen de extrema van de langskracht ca. overeenkomen met het opgelegde criterium. Bij behoud van het optrekken van de schuiven tot de halve rioolhoogte wordt zo een reductie van de nivelleertijd met 2.5 min uitgekomen voor vullen en ledigen.
