Howe var. <i>chalicodictya<\/i> Taylor has been described in 1939 after material from the Caribbean Sea. It has never been mentioned since the <i>descriptio princeps<\/i>. We found it sometimes while assorting phytosociological relev\u00e9s from Banyuls and Port-Cros (France). <i>Lophosiphonia scopulorum<\/i> (Harv.) Womersl., described from Australia, has recently been mentioned by Ardre (1970) along the Portuguese coasts. We noted this species at Banyuls.
