Here, we describe a new species (<em>Stenogyropsis chorismenostoma</em> n. sp.) that has a further remarkable trait: its last quarter whorl is detached from the penultimate whorl. We also show that a partly detached last whorl has evolved much more frequently in terrestrial Caenogastropoda than in Stylommatophora relative to the number of species within those groups.
