Title
Abundancia, diversidad y variabilidad temporal de un esamble de nudibranquios en un arrecife costero del Golfo San Matías
Abstract
Nudibranchs, commonly known as marine slugs, are considered one of the most diverse groups of marine molluscs; they come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. With more than 3000 species described, they inhabit the seas around the world, being present in both warm and cold waters, from intertidal zones to deeper areas. They play an important role in coastalenvironments as they feed on several benthic organisms, including other congeners. The San Matias Gulf (SMG), considered a "hot spot" in molluscs diversity, only five nudibranch species has been previously registered. The aim of this study was to determine the composition and structure of the assembly of nudibranchs present in a specific site of SMG (Parque SubmarinoLas Grutas), for which the abundance, diversity and temporal variability of the species found were evaluated. The samples were collected between February 2017 and December 2018 through SCUBA diving. The specimens found were identified taking into account external and internal morphological characteristics, comparing them with the existing bibliography. Thirteenspecies were registered, of which 12 comprise new records for the area, nine expand their known geographic distribution and two represent new records for the Argentine coast. Although the nudibranch assemblage did not present statistically significant differences in temporal variability between seasons, an increase in the number of individuals recorded during warmmonths was observed. This study presents an updated list of nudibranchs (Gastropoda, Heterobranchia) from SMG, which represents an important addition to the knowledge about the biodiversity of these organisms both in SMG and the Argentine coast. Likewise, the descriptions made, the photographs of the species and their egg masses, as well as the identification key generated from this study, provide a useful tool for the identification of the species that can be found in the gulf.
