Examinations in the Weser estuary have shown that more than 90% of the individuals can be found in the vicinity of mean high water (MHW). Absence of this species in the lower eulittoral and in the supralittoral can probably be attributed to absence of the green alga Blidingia sp. in these littoral zones. Fucus vesiculosus, a large brown alga, predominates the lower eulittoral and overgrows the rocky substrate homogeneously.
