Title
Scientists discovered more than 2.000 new marine animals and plants in 2021
Abstract
Scientists discover and describe new species every year. In 2021, at least 2241 new marine animals and plants were described worldwide. Each of these species has its own story. The World Register of Marine Species, hosted by the Flanders Marine Institute (Ostend), manages the names and valuable information of all marine species discovered to date and annually publishes a top-ten of the most remarkable new discoveries. This year, the list ranges from an extremely tiny and often overlooked mite to a new species of whale.
