Two new families in the Cheilostomata Quadricellariidae and Petalostegidae - are recognised, based on existing genera. Five new genera - <i>Onychoblestrum</i> (Calloporidae), <i>Brettiella</i> (Bugulidae), <i>Briarachnia</i> (Arachnopusiidae), <i>Elleschara</i> (Exochellidae), and <i>Tenthrenulina</i> (Microporellidae) - are also described and two new subgenera areintroduced. The genus <i>Galeopsis</i> Jullien is herein recognised to be a senior synonym of <i>Diatosula</i> Canu & Bassler and <i>Spiroporina</i> sensu Brown and assigned to the Celleporidae. <i>Buffonellaria</i> Canu & Bassler is also included in this family. Lepralie/la Levinsen is considered to include <i>Hippoporella</i> Canu & Bassler and, with <i>Cleidochasma</i> Harmer, is incorporated in the Sertellidae. The genus Catenice/la de Blainville is shown to be valid over <i>Vittaticella</i> Maplestone and <i>Caloporella</i> MacGillivray. Based on the relatively high diversity of Kermadec Ridge material it has seemed appropriate to recognise within the suborder Ascophora a number of superfamilies.
