In Europe, numerous projects for the restoration of coastal salt grasslands have been carried out so far, which are critically reflected here. It seems that near-natural coastal saltgrass land can be restored after only a few years of restoration measures, such as dike deconstruction. The dike deconstruction on the North Sea island Langeoog is presented as a case study.
