It turned outthat it is not possible to differentiate specimens from the W Mediterranean Sea and localities along the West African coast. Except for <i>S. achatidea verdensis</i> Lorenz, 2017, there is no reason to recognize subspecies as <i>oranica</i> Crosse, 1896, <i>inopinata</i> Schilder, 1930 and <i>longinqua</i> Schilder & Schilder, 1938. These so called subspecies refer to areas which are not separated from each other.
