De neerslag had een maximale retourperiode van rond de 2 jaar in Vlaanderen.  In het bekken van de IJzer werd op 16 januari een afvoer bereikt die in de top 10 sinds het begin van de  metingen valt. Peildrempels werden overschreden, maar er traden geen kritieke overstromingen op vanuit  de bevaarbare waterlopen in het IJzerbekken.<br>Voor de omgeving rond Gent, waar op 12 januari veel lokale neerslag viel, traden op de Ringvaart, Kanaal  Gent-Terneuzen en Moervaart-Durme hoge peilen op. Afwaarts de dam van Lokeren was er overloop vanuit  de Benedendurme naar het Molsbroek en opwaarts de dam van Lokeren bewees de waterkeringsmuur in  het centrum zijn nut. Het is eerder uitzonderlijk (niet eerder voorgekomen in metingen) dat waterstanden  rond Gent zo hoog zijn met een aanvoer van 210-230 m³/s (retourperiode kleiner dan 1 jaar) vanuit Leie en  Bovenschelde. De afvoer rond Gent verloopt momenteel aangepast door de bouw van de Nieuwe Sluis  Terneuzen (Middensluis niet beschikbaar als spuimiddel) en de gevolgen van een dijkdoorbraak tussen het  Afleidingskanaal en Leopoldkanaal in de eindejaarsperiode van 2018. Tussen 10 en 20 januari 2023 was in  Terneuzen de Oostsluis gedurende 15 laagwaters gestremd, de Westsluis werd tussen 13 en 19 januari 11  keer gestremd.<br>Over de verschillende neerslagevents heen, viel in Vlaanderen het meeste neerslag in de omgeving van  Brugge. Op het kanaal Gent-Oostende afwaarts Brugge en op het Kanaal Plassendale-Nieuwpoort traden  dan ook hoge waterstanden op, in functie van het getij. Er traden geen kritieke overstromingen op vanuit de  kanalen.
