The ontogeny of this species is similar to that of <i>H. longifilis</i>. However, the growth rate of embryonic and larval development in <i>H. isopterus</i> is slower. Also the adhesive pastille on the yolk sac of the post-hatching larvae is absent. At the age of 6 days, cannibalism was noted. The juvenile period starts after 23 days at 26°C. Sexual maturity and the effect of temperature on the eggs have also been studied in <i>H. isopterus</i>. The study of oocyte diameter and influence of temperature on embryonic development enabled to conclude that the species can be reproduced throughout the year. The optimal hatching rate and the highest ratio of normal larvae are obtained between 24°C and 26°C.","AbstractOtherLang":"Une description chronologique du développement embryonnaire et de l' aspect extérieur du développement larvaire du poisson-chat africain <i>Heterobranchus isopterus</i> (Clariidae) est proposée jusqu'à l'âge de 23 jours. Le développement ontogénique de cette espèce est comparable à celui d' <i>H. longifilis</i>. <i>Heterobranchus isopterus</i> semble cependant se distinguer par une vitesse de croissance embryonnaire et larvaire beaucoup moins rapide et par l'absence de pastille adhésive sur le sac vitellin chez la larve post-éclosion. A l'âge de 6 jours, on observe un cannibalisme intraspécifique chez les larves. Celles-ci passent au stade juvénile après 23 jours de développement à 26°C. La maturité sexuelle et la tolérance des oeufs à la température chez <i>H. isopterus</i> ont également été étudiées. Il ressort de l'étude relative à la mesure des diamètres ovocytaires et à l'influence de la température d'incubation que les alevins peuvent pratiquement être obtenus toute l'année.
