Uit een eerdere validatieoefening is  namelijk gebleken dat het NeVla voorspelmodel zowel de sterkte van de dwarsstromingen zelf alsmede de  waterstandsindicatoren niet goed representeert voor de hoogste springtijen.<br>De huidige kalibratieoefening toont aan dat het inderdaad mogelijk is de representatie van deze parameters  te verbeteren door de ruwheid in de hoofdgeul (i.e., Gat van Ossenisse) en nevengeul (i.e., Middelgat) tussen  Terneuzen en Hansweert te verlagen. De gemiddelde afwijking voor het maximale verhang tussen Terneuzen  en Hansweert neemt dan af van 23 cm in de huidige NeVla configuratie naar 3-4 cm in enkele kalibratieruns  en de afwijking van de maximale stijgsnelheid te Hansweert neemt af van 0,29 cm∙min-1 naar minder dan  0,05 cm∙min-1 in de meest optimale kalibratieruns.
