The Canacidae of Israel also reflect this phenomenon, although only two species are known to occur there: one species, C. salonitana Strobl, is typically Mediterranean, the other, Nocticanaci sinaiensis n.sp., represents the Indo-Pacific region. The genus Canace, s.str., is reviewed, with one new species, C. actites, from the Canary and Madeira Islands.
