Since its inception, the sea cucumber fishery in Russia has been influenced both by neighboring cultures and many historical events. These have created many fluctuations in the fishery, including various booms, busts, and pauses on its way to a currently sustainable fishery. In the past, these events resulted in migrations into fishing areas during fishing seasons, subsequent immigration, management issues, corruption, and scientific research. More recently, aquaculture has been developed in Primorsky.
