Title
Ensuring long-term sustainability of the fishery for Apostichopus californicus in British Columbia (Canada) through collaborative science and adaptive management
Abstract
This chapter examines the evolution of sea cucumber harvesting in British Columbia (Canada), from a fishery with few management controls to one with a robust stock assessment and management regime. Collaboration and adaptive management are highlighted as vital components to the development of the fishery, exemplifying how a precautionary approach can be applied to achieve a sustainable harvest, even for a data-limited species.
