De alternatieven Boemerang en Winkelhaak zijn eerder geëvalueerd door middel van realtime simulaties, terwijl het Winkelhaakdok ook deel uitmaakte van een realtime verkeerssimulatiestudie met vier Ultra Large Containerschepen (ULCS) in interactie met elkaar in dezelfde virtuele omgeving. Het Duplexalternatief werd onderzocht in 20 simulatieruns die gedurende twee dagen werden uitgevoerd door vier loodsen van het Vlaamse en Nederlandse loodswezen en geassisteerd door een sleepbootloods van Boluda of Antwerp Towage. De toegankelijkheid van een ULCS van 400 m en 430 m is gegarandeerd voor windkrachten beperkt tot maximaal 6 Bft met maximale vloed- en ebstroom. Head in mooring is voornamelijk overwogen maar ook enkele head outbound manoeuvres zijn gerealiseerd. Sleepbootconfiguraties (met ten minste drie sleepboten van 80 ton voor 6 Bft) worden voorgesteld om de ULCS bij deze manoeuvres te assisteren.
