- Title
- Hyperbenthic calanoids and Thespesiopsyllus paradoxus (Sars) collected with a light trap in western Norway
- Abstract
- A light trap for collecting hyperfauna was constructed, and material collected from 50 and 120rm depth in Raunefjorden. The samples were taken in October and December 1999 and April 2000. The catch consisted mainly of small crustaceans; hyperbenthic calanoids dominated, among them Bradyidius sp., Diaixis hibernica and Tharybis macrophthalma. Xanthocalanus minor, X. fallax, the cyclopoid Thespesiopsyllus paradoxus and monstrilloids were also caught in the trap, but in smaller numbers. These species are little known and they are rarely caught in other devices. Light traps seem to be an easy and effective method for collecting them.
