The procedure at Flanders Hydraulics consists of 2 main parts: a ship</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">calibration process calculating the characteristics of an empty ship model by use of a</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">physical pendulum, and a ballasting process, where ballast blocks are added to the ship</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">to modify its mass, centre of gravity and inertia tensor. The existing calibration routine</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">at FH was analysed, and the assumptions on which the error analysis was based, were</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">examined. From these results, a modified calculation method was developed and imple</span><!--[if !supportFootnotes] [1]<!--[endif] mented in a Python script. Experiments with this new method yielded no significant</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">accuracy improvements of the final result. It was also found that multiple measurement</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">devices should be upgraded together, to significantly improve the accuracy of the final</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">results. For the ballast procedure, a new algorithm, based on Simulated Annealing, was</span><br><span lang=\"EN-US\" dir=\"ltr\">developed.
