De te onderzoeken ladingscondities betroffen de maximale kanaaldiepgang (TA = 12.5 m; TF = 12.5 m) en een heavy ballast ladingsconditie (TA = 8.8 m; TF = 7.7 m).<br>Het onderzoek bestond enerzijds uit een theoretische analyse van de bodemprofielen van het Kanaal Gent-Terneuzen en de bijhorende impact op het vaargedrag van de studieschepen en anderzijds uit een driedaagse simulatiestudie op een Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS).<br>Op basis van het gevoerde onderzoek worden de meest kritische secties langsheen het kanaal inzichtelijke gemaakt en worden de verwachte oevereffecten op de studieschepen begroot. De ontwikkelde oevereffecten-modellering werd toegepast in de impactstudie van de bodemsecties zowel als in de realtime simulaties met kanaalloodsen.<br>De vaarsimulaties lieten toe om de randvoorwaarden voor proefvaarten met de studieschepen te bepalen.
