From there, the species spread further in southern England towards the North Sea. The first observations in the North Sea date back to 2010 (Essex, England). Since 2013, <i>Ammothea hilgendorfi</i> has also been found in Belgian waters. It is not known whether the species has a negative effect on the ecosystem.","AbstractOtherLang":"De Zebrazeespin <i>Ammothea hilgendorfi</i> kwam oorspronkelijk enkel voor aan de kustgebieden in het tropisch en noordelijk deel van de Stille Oceaan, maar via internationale scheepvaart werd de soort tot in de Middellandse Zee (1979, Lagune van Venetië) en tot aan de Britse kust (1978, Southampton) getransporteerd. Van hieruit verspreide de soort zich verder in het zuiden van Engeland richting de Noordzee. De eerste waarnemingen in de Noordzee dateren van 2010 (Essex, Engeland). Sinds 2013 wordt de Zebrazeespin ook aangetroffen in Belgische wateren.
