Title

Otimização da produção de rotíferos para aplicação na larvicultura de peixes planos da Flatlantic

Abstract

Given the growth of the world population accompanied by an increase in fish consumption and a decrease in fish stocks, the aquaculture industry has emerged as a solution to meet the population needs, presenting itself as a sustainable and economically viable alternative. Flatlantic, an aquaculture company in Portugal, stands out as one of the largest intensive turbot (Scophtalmus maximus) production units in Europe. Recently, it invested in the cultivation of a new species, the Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis). This aquaculture integrates the entire life cycle of organisms, using both water recirculation systems and open circuit systems. The internship aimed to provide contact with the working reality in aquaculture, integrating the company's maternity team, in the live food section, more specifically in the production of rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis) and brine shrimp (Artemia spp). In this context, the most diverse daily routines inherent to the rotifer and brine shrimp production system were carried out. During the internship, an experimental trial was also carried out with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of commercial water conditioners on water quality parameters (microbiological and physicochemical).
