The work builds on the ongoing MarClim (Marine Biodiversity and Climate Change) programme, started in 2002 and covering the coastlines of Great Britain and Ireland (to 2005) and parts of the Atlantic coasts of mainland Europe. Surveys follow a common protocol aimed at rapid assessment of abundance of over 50 species, supplemented by direct counts of species and photography of each seashore. The data collected was compared to that obtained from surveys of the same locations in 2014-2015 to determine changes.
