The first record of <i>P. monodon</i> in Brazil occurred in 1987, in the State of Maranhão, and since then, new records/report the occurrence of the species in States in the North, Northeast and Southeast regions of Brazil. Furthermore, in recent years the number of records has increased, which raises concerns about the status of the species in Brazil. Based on that, this paper is the first review on the occurrence of <i>P. monodon</i> on the Brazilian coast, discussing the spatio-temporal distribution and frequency, the biological characteristics of the specimens, fishing methods, environmental characteristics and hypotheses of origin and spread. According to our review, the most likely hypotheses for the introduction of the <i>P. monodon</i> in Brazil are: (1) migration of adult animals and (2) transport by ballast water. However, these hypotheses require further studies to confirm them and develop management measures and investigation of the environmental and economic impact caused by the presence of the species. Furthermore, we made the first scientific records of the occurrence of <i>P. monodon</i> in 3 new cities: Itarema (state of Ceará), Bragança and Colares (state of Pará). Currently, regarding the status of the species' presence, <i>P. monodon</i> is considered detected in Brazil.
